Characters & the Marketplace

A character (you might also see the word agent) is an AI with its own personality and specialty. Kiana is the all-rounder who greets everybody. The rest each have a thing they're great at.

What's in there

There's a big cast — think a mechanic who'll talk you through a weird engine noise, a chef for "what can I make with what's in my fridge," a patient tech helper, a bedtime-story reader for the kids, and dozens more. They're free to use, just like Kiana.

The specialists

A few characters have serious extra powers: Rio makes short videos from your description, Lux is the photography ace, Indie designs images with clean text in them (logos, cards, flyers), and Describe-It looks at a photo you upload and tells you everything that's in it — a favorite for screen-reader users. Video-making costs real money per clip (the character will tell you roughly how much before it runs), so it mentions the price the way a friend would — no surprises. See Making Pictures.

The Companions — everyday folks, just for company

New: a whole shelf of characters who aren't specialists at anything except being good company. Regular people of all sorts — Earl the retired trucker with a story for every mile marker, Miss Opal from the school cafeteria who remembers every birthday, Dottie at the diner who never lets your cup hit empty, Marcus the night-shift EMT who listens for real, Wanda the bingo-hall legend, Priya the midnight radio DJ for when you can't sleep, and a dozen more. No tasks, no agenda — somebody to talk to who remembers what you told them last time. They're friends, not sweethearts: warm company without any of the dating-app business.

Find your people — the Matchmaker

Don't feel like scrolling a hundred characters? Take the Matchmaker quiz: five quick questions — what you're in the mood for, what energy fits, what you love talking about — and it hands you your three best matches with a plain reason for each, and a button to start talking. There's a "surprise me" option if you'd rather leave it to fate. Open the account menu (bottom-left), choose Explore, then The Matchmaker — or go straight to kademurdock.com/matchmaker. Retake it as often as your mood changes; nothing is saved and nothing costs anything.

How to browse them

Look for the marketplace (sometimes shown as a grid or an "explore characters" option in the menu). Open it and you can scroll the whole list, each with a short description of what it's for.

How to switch

Pick any character to start talking to it. Switching characters starts a conversation with that one — your chat with Kiana is still saved in your list, so hopping around never loses anything.

When Kiana repeats an earlier answer

Kiana's chat replies have a stronger check for repeating old explanations or advice after you have moved the conversation forward. You can still ask her to repeat or explain more, and long replies are welcome when they add something useful. This applies to new chat replies; saved messages are not rewritten. Live phone and Clubhouse conversations use a different speech path.

She can still miss the point. If that happens, use Feedback or ask her to send a bug report, including which reply went wrong. You do not need to delete the conversation or start over.
